We like to say, if TED is ideas worth spreading, then LOPO is projects worth doing.
Projects bring people together. A project you can identify with, is a project of value and purpose – something you can both own and share! It’s bigger than you. As Tim Smit, who built the Eden Project, says: ‘I like the word Project. It’s got dynamism, direction and a sense of evolution about it.’
LOPO is a project too. We look towards the Sustainable Development Goals as a framework for the projects we co-facilitate. Projects can be at the very early stages or they may have been up and running for years. Buy you need some help from people who see the world the same way as you – they want your project to succeed. All we ask, is that the idea has taken flight and work on your project is underway. And most importantly, you sign up to our 8 principles and you’re want to make a difference in the world. Beyond that, so long as you can answer four simple questions:
What do you get?
If you pitch your project at LOPO, you get access to a room full of like-minded brains, who want the world to change – and are prepared to DO something about it. They can can help develop your thinking, provide feedback, insight, connections, advice, enthusiasm and support, as well as volunteering their time. Some projects have found collaborators and even co-workers! You get whatever you need to do more good in the world. Anything except money. By engineering serendipity, we help you seek out the magic of the unexpected – you never know what you might get out of your pitch!
And it works both ways, if you don’t have a project of your own – yet, LOPO gives you the chance to get involved with great projects, based on what you’re interested in and what you’d like to offer. Everyone has something to offer; our strength is in our diversity. We let serendipity to do the rest!
